In his speech, His Majesty said that “Spain and the United States are partners and allies but above all, friends”. In this context “the chair represents a very responsible instrument of Spanish public diplomacy. It is a great gateway to connecting the academic life of the Atlantic Ocean, as the basis for better mutual understanding. Spain is a country with an Atlantic vocation and it admires our students and professionals in an agenda of diverse interests». His Majesty has expressed his gratitude to the four entities that promote the Prince of Asturias Chair: the Georgetown University, the Endesa’s Foundation, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and the Embassy of Spain in the United States. The work carried out by these institutions was born 25 years ago with a contribution to “the improvement of transatlantic relations and mutual awareness”. In addition, His Majesty was delighted to congratulate the new chairperson, Federico Steinberg, recognizing as well the work of the 14 academics that he preceded, being Mr. Juan Luis Manfredi, ExCom member of our Club, the last of them.
