On September 20th, the Georgetown Club of Spain held another meeting of the Leadership Series about Perspectives on Talent and Competitiveness in Spain. On this occasion, it was the time for the financial sector: central banks, where the Bank of Spain is a worldwide reference. We had the privilege to count on Pablo Hernandez de Cos in an exclusive breakfast. Mr. Hernandez de Cos is one of the most reputed economist in Europe, Governor of the Bank of Spain from 2018 to 2024.
Mr. Hernandez de Cos shared with us some of his best leadership and career advice on a life-time of experiences, giving us invaluable insights on the past, current and economic prospects at global, European and national level. Mr. Hernandez de Cos highlighted the impact of demography and productivity for countries´ economic growth and analyzed the productivity gap between the United States and Europe, especially Spain. He discussed recommendations to improve Spain´s financial and economic prospects, all of it illustrated with real life examples and references to research studies undertaken by the Bank of Spain and other worldwide renown institutions. Mr. Hernandez de Cos also advocated for a unified European approach on areas as important as fiscal policy, energy, defense or climate change. He also highlighted the need to include economic and financial education in the academic curriculum not only for citizens to undertake better informed economic decisions but also to strengthen democracies.
It was a real privilege for all attendees to listen to Mr. Hernandez de Cos´ insights on important and complex issues in such a clear way. We also had the opportunity to share insights and ask questions in a very easy-going environment to one of the most prominent economic and financial leaders in the world. We really enjoyed this special opportunity!!!

We have had the great honor to hold the first GU Alumni meet & greet on Thursday, October 24th from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at Chiquita Room Gallery located at Carrer de Villarroel # 25. It has been a great opportunity for all Hoyas based in Barcelona to meet in a relaxed environment. Besides, we have also had the opportunity to share this experience with other Ryder Alumni based in Barcelona, whose participation enriched the experience substantially.
We have also had the pleasure to have a lunch at the Royal Nautic Club of Barcelona on Friday October 25th from 1:30pm to 5:00pm. It was a real privilege for us as RNCB has a privileged location and view of Barcelona’s Marina.

This year has been a wonderful year for the Club!
First of all, we have been honored to received the GUAA Best International Club Award for the second consecutive year!!!
We have been privileged to host an International Georgetown Summit in Madrid, with Hoyas coming all over the world, and counting in the inaugural dinner with our President of Honor, His Majesty the King of Spain We have also extended our leadership series about «Perspectives on Talent and Competitiveness in Spain» with top representatives in competitive sectors such as Rafael Matesanz (health), Alberto Chicote (gastronomy) and Pablo Hernández de Cos (finance). We have also organized different national events to enjoy our cultural variety in different cities in Spain: Jerez, Elche, Segovia and Barcelona have been the chosen ones this year! Additionally, we have extended the Georgetown network with the Jesuit Companion closing an agreement with Advantere School of Management, that together with ICADE and DEUSTO have opened an impressive new campus in Madrid («Campus Arrupe») where we all will benefit from upcoming events. Last but not least, we have also organized different social events in diverse venues to enjoy the rich variety of members we are so lucky to have.
For all this, we have decided to organize an end-of-the-year cocktail in a relaxed environment on November, Friday 15th at La Cabezona in Madrid. There are a lot of reasons to celebrate!!
